As scientists at the University of Bologna in Italy have developed smart bandages that can understand the state of wounds, tracking wounds has become easier. Equipped with a sensor, the bandage can read the moisture content and then transmit it to a dedicated app in the smartphone. This new innovation is considered the next big thing because it provides real-time data and simplifies the monitoring of wounds by doctors and health professionals.

Smart bandages include multiple levels, which provide real-time wireless monitoring of wear and tear by obtaining moisture content and letting doctors know the extent of wound healing. Compared with wounds that are recovering, fresh wounds have a higher moisture content. According to the "Daily Mail" report, this data is then transmitted to the mobile application via a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip. The sensor can track changes in moisture content because an electrical signal is generated every time wear tends to recover.

Researchers can easily implant RFID chips into bandages because they are smaller than a grain of rice. These chips are known for their utility in clothing security labels and contactless cards. The data of the invention was published as a study in the journal Frontiers in Physics, further explaining the advantages of smart bandages.

According to the "Daily Mail" report, research author Dr. Luca Possanzini of the University of Bologna said that they have developed multi-layer bandages with different absorption properties and characteristics to make them compatible with different types of wounds.

The doctor said that often removing the bandage from the wound for dressing or checking the recovery will hinder the healing process. Using the new smart bandage, doctors and patients themselves will be able to monitor the recovery status without interrupting the healing process. However, wound healing depends on many factors. Such as temperature, glucose level and acidity.

As of now, detailed information about the price and launch of the smart bandage has not been announced, but according to scientists, the bandage will be easy to carry because/they chose cheap materials for their invention. In addition, the bandage is also environmentally friendly and can be handled safely.
