The temperatures are hot and the water is nice! Boating season is officially kicking off here in southeast Louisiana, and this week is National Safe Boating Week.

According to the US Coast Guard, there are more than 2,500 boating injuries reported across the country every year.

What can you do to stay safe this summer?

“First and foremost, protect your eyes; protect your skin,” said Brad Greer, CEO of DrySee.

DrySee is the world’s first and only liquid-indicating bandages. It’s a waterproof dressing that changes colors when water penetrates the gauze, so patients know when to change the bandage.

The water itself can come with its own set of dangers.

“If you have an open wound, wear DrySee, a dressing, and protect it because there are pathogens you can pick up in the waterways,” Greer said.

There are other safety tips to keep in mind, too.

“Be aware we’re coming into the summertime and thunderstorms pop up in minutes. So be responsible and be close to a marine or shore in the summer months,” Greer said.

Greer also recommends you have a good weather app on your phone so you can check the frequently changing weather.

“Have an emergency whistle so you can blow that whistle and emergency personal can find you and come to your aid and rescue,” Greer added.

A great time will be had on the water this summer, especially when we are all prepared. Happy boating season!
